Talon’s Point of the Day – Jan. 30, 2016 Get Sick Of Yourself

Many who attempt, suicide, and sometimes “succeed”, do so for things such as no longer being able to deal with physical pain, no doubt coupled with emotional pain. The rest of course do so because they no longer wish to face said emotional pain. In all cases it is of course tragic. Yet I cannot help but think on one level they are half way to a truth they are unwilling to continue through the process to completion.

When we get so sick of our lives as we have molded them through our own choices, to the point we give up on our lives, we are at a potentially eternal crossroad where one path is nothing short of glorious. Yes we can give up. We can use our last decision in life to act consistent with our past. Decisions that have us here at this crossroad in the first place, unwilling to turn to the God we’ve all heard about at some level. Or, even if we know little about this Creator, and even doubt he exists, or doubt the claim he loves us, we can choose to strike a new path. We can truly get so sick of ourselves that instead of ending our mortal existence, we cry out to God in surrender, leaving the remainder of our days in his hands, to mold us as he wills. To help us finally know that we were created for a wonderful purpose,

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:14

and to turn the ashes of our self destruction into beauty.

“…and provide for those who grieve in Zion —
to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”

Get sick of yourself. It can lead to beauty beyond imagination.

Talon’s Point of the Day – Jan 17th, 2016 Sometime’s It’s Necessary To “Lose”

If you stand for what’s right you may lose.  By “may lose” I mean you may suffer temporal consequence for your stand but remember, God holds eternal scales and he loves true justice and those who take a stand for it. If you don’t take a stand you may avoid temporal consequence but you’re guaranteed to lose for the same eternal scales will weigh your inaction. Expect the attack for standing, and prepare accordingly.

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” – Paul, the Apostle (Ephesians 6:13)

My Train Wreck Conversion

As a leftist lesbian professor, I despised Christians. Then I somehow became one.

My Train Wreck Conversion

The word Jesus stuck in my throat like an elephant tusk; no matter how hard I choked, I couldn’t hack it out. Those who professed the name commanded my pity and wrath. As a university professor, I tired of students who seemed to believe that “knowing Jesus” meant knowing little else. Christians in particular were bad readers, always seizing opportunities to insert a Bible verse into a conversation with the same point as a punctuation mark: to end it rather than deepen it.

Stupid. Pointless. Menacing. That’s what I thought of Christians and their god Jesus, who in paintings looked as powerful as a Breck Shampoo commercial model.

As a professor of English and women’s studies, on the track to becoming a tenured radical, I cared about morality, justice, and compassion. Fervent for the worldviews of Freud, Hegel, Marx, and Darwin, I strove to stand with the disempowered. I valued morality. And I probably could have stomached Jesus and his band of warriors if it weren’t for how other cultural forces buttressed the Christian Right. Pat Robertson’s quip from the 1992 Republican National Convention pushed me over the edge: “Feminism,” he sneered, “encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians.” Indeed. The surround sound of Christian dogma comingling with Republican politics demanded my attention.

It’s Time For The Church To Rethink The Definition Of “Marriage”

Ok. Now that I hooked you with this seemingly shocking statement let’s begin by reaffirming the biblical foundation for marriage. We can assume from reading the second chapter of Genesis, through inference of the narrator, that immediately following the moment God presented Eve to Adam, God defined marriage as follows

“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” (Gen 2:24)

I use the King James version here as I believe it best expresses God’s desire for the heart of man to his wife. Merriam-Webster defines the word “cleave” as: to adhere firmly and closely or loyally and unwaveringly. This is important because it lays the foundation for the very purpose of why God established marriage.

We know through the study God’s word that the marriage between man and woman is a likeness to our bond to Christ our savior, both individually and as the collective body of Christ. This bond brings us back into relationship with God our Father that we terminated through our rebellion. For this reason husbands are called to

love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” (Eph 5:25)

His “wife”. Not his “other.”

We can assume from God’s word, in this case from what is not stated, that there was a singular intended definition from the beginning of creation. Therefore, any future definitions, while accepted by society, and sanctioned by government, is a distortion of, thus a counterfeit to, the original. We further know from scripture that Satan often distorts and/or counterfeits that which God ordains to entice both the aware, and often the unsuspecting, into rebellious acts toward God, what we know as “sin” going back to the original sin of mankind. I would contend that this counterfeit definition of marriage is not only intended to entice those who are being drawn toward the sin of homosexuality to engage in it, but to further engage in the sin of pride when one tries to justify their sinful actions using justification through the rebellious actions of governments. Yet it goes beyond that in my mind. I believe this tactic by Satan is intended to add to the chains of the person bound by homosexuality, by tricking them into mocking the marriage of Christ to the believer(s) through the act of unknowingly marrying themselves to Satan himself as a counterfeit.

What then should the response of the Church be to this modern social definition of marriage? Acceptance of this world’s definition, which I contend would be acceptance of Satan’s counterfeit? Business as usual perhaps, where we try to coexist with this counterfeit? As you read this the world, in its ignorance of what marriage actually represents, is crying out “how is same-sex marriage harming anyone?”  I’ve tried quickly, maybe too quickly, to lay the foundation and framework for what I believe is not only the proper (and singular) definition of marriage, as well as what I believe is the root of the counterfeit for a reason, so that the Christian reader may see that the intention of this counterfeit is to discredit through dilution the purity of God’s original intent, thus further clouding the minds of the lost from grasping God’s witness to the world of his love, and path to re-establishing unity with him, through the sacrifice of his son Jesus and the gift of salvation.

Rethinking marriage.

As noted at the beginning of this post I believe it’s time for the Church to rethink the very definition of marriage. Don’t get me wrong. After laying out God’s definition of marriage,  the root of the counterfeit, or the sins tied the counterfeit, I’m not suggesting we place ourselves above God by altering his definition in the slightest. I’m also not satisfied with the notion we simply comply with Satan’s definition nor even to try to co-exist with it. Yes we are stuck with dealing with society’s blindness to the ditch they have fallen into, but we don’t have to cooperate any more than what is necessary by law. In other words we may find ourselves functionally co-existing because we cannot deny the reality that we walk in God’s truth in the middle of an active rebellion towards said truth and must continue to function in this world, but that should not mean that we grow silent regarding the truth of this or any matter.

While I will avoid venturing into all the social and business ramifications in this post, when it comes to how we express our Christ centered marriages in the eyes of a dying world, I believe it’s time for the Church, as a matter of witness, to establish an unequivocal differentiation before it is too late. It’s the nature of man to become used to things then forget how they came about. It’s how Western cultures, built on the foundation of Judeo-Christian principles, forgot said foundational principles including God’s intended meaning of marriage already discussed in this post. If we do not act quickly, future generations will lose all remaining awareness of the very intent of marriage, which I believe is the strategy of Satan.

While I wish we could prevent this strategy from succeeding through correcting that actions of courts throughout the Western world I do not believe this can be accomplished without an act of God himself and from what I read of the end times in his book I don’t see him acting in that way. What I sense is him calling us to stoke the flame within us to burn ever brighter in a darkening world so that those who are perishing can see the light, even as most will reject it and sadly perish. One way is through differentiating true Christian marriage from the counterfeit “marriage” ordained by this world and its god.

How do we do that?  That is a question I have been wrestling with since long before the rebellious act of the U.S. Supreme Court as I have anticipated this rebellion for years. While I wanted to wait until I was fully satisfied that I could articulate this much needed action, along with the majority of ramifications, before posting it, I have concluded that it is of greater import that I post it in concept now so that the message might be out there. Perhaps it is not for me to perfectly define. Perhaps one far more gifted than I is meant to take this up, or already has, but I will attempt to basically articulate the concept here.

What I think the Church needs to do is modify our terminology of marriage while clearly not altering it’s meaning. Perhaps by using the term “Holy marriage” or “Christ marriage” or something else that conveys the message that there is an original purpose to marriage, thus pointing both the believer, and non-believer, back to redemption to God through Christ.

There is a secondary importance that should be noted here. Just as I long anticipated the federal government redefinition of marriage, something outside of it’s constitutional purview here in the U.S. by the way, I anticipate government assaulting churches that do not perform counterfeit marriages though stripping them of their 501 (c)(3) status.

While I’m actually an advocate of churches accepting taxation so that they aren’t tempted by loss of money to refrain from speaking freely I know it wouldn’t end there. One step toward protecting current 501 (c)(3) status (for awhile at least), and delay future persecution in general (in my non legal opinion) is to stop conducting standard marriages that involve cooperation with government via marriage licenses, and instead use this alternative (differentiating) definition and establish within each Church’s bylaws that we will ONLY conduct this newly coined marriage and will not participate in the government license process. There will of course be legal issues for the newly “Christ married” couple to deal with without a government issued marriage license signed by their church but they are not unsurmountable. Each couple can decide on their own if they wish to go to a local magistrate for a government issued conventional license. My suggestion would be to avoid it if at all possible but such issues as qualifying for family health benefits may require something other than a church-only issued license.

However, on the question of what is a proper “marriage” in God’s eyes, nowhere in the book of Genesis, or elsewhere, did God tell someone to go get a license (approval) from a government, and our government, at least here in the U.S., has long established that it has no legal jurisdiction over those who chose not to purchase it’s legal approval (license) except in a few jurisdictions that have established common-law marriage. In other words, nowhere in scripture is government involvement necessary to establish in the eyes of God and man that two people have agreed to witness to the world of God’s love for the world, and restoration of relationship to himself, by the sacrifice of his beloved son through the act of true marriage. It is time to untether ourselves from man’s rebellion and walk in the light for all to see.

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” 1 Peter 2:9

May we shine God’s light in the darkness even as this world hates the light.

Talon’s Point of the Day – Nov. 17th 2015 Those “Dam” Christians

America is much like a town residing just below a great dam built by Christians whose remaining descendants have the only knowledge of how to maintain it. Over generations many Christians walked away from their God given commission to voluntarily maintain the dam. Meanwhile residents have spent generation beating on the dam with everything they can until cracks form, celebrating with each new crack. Those Christians who remain spent years crying out warnings to the town about the dangers of weakening the dam and offering solutions for its repair but the town got so tired of hearing from those annoying Christians that they passed local ordinances to silence them and eventually made it illegal for the Christians to do anything to maintain the dam.

As you can surmise, the dam eventually broke and swept away the people in a flood of destruction. America’s dam is riddled with cracks of its own making. Each day the forces of destruction increasingly press against the dam.  With each new crack, and with each new restriction on American Christians to speak out and lead in the repairs our society celebrates, but shortly, very shortly, all hell is going to break loose.

What happens when there are no rules that apply to you? You can justify your previous wrongs by simply becoming your own rule maker. Thank you Chief Justice John Robert! I’m sure we’ll all get to make our own rules now, right?

Talon’s Point of the Day – May 25th, 2015 Memorial Day

Today is the day we give special honor to those who gave all for the freedoms we have taken so for granted that we have granted our government the power to take them away. The day will come when our government will use said military to control its own citizens.

In the mean time I honor the gift given to me by the fallen soldiers of the past and all who served honorably. Yet I also grieve for what I know is coming.

Talon’s Point of the Day – May 17th, 2015 Chinx, Mourning A Life Wasted

Today comes word of yet another death in the rap music “community.” Rapper “Chinx” aka Lionel Pickens, who’s debut album is titled “Hurry Up & Die Vol. 1: Get Ya Casket On” was driving his Porsche Panamera 4 through the streets of Queens NY about 4am yesterday (5/16) morning when multiple shots were fired in to his vehicle killing him and critically wounding his passenger.

Those who know me know of my profound disdain for the musical genre that has been used to glorify and further popularize a culture that is not only destroying millions of lives in our nation’s inner cities but is even spreading to small town America. I could easily wax sarcastic about this event due to my utter frustration with people like Mr. Pickens yet God’s Spirit also reminds me that His heart breaks for every Lional Pickens of this world who rejects the message of God’s love, who take their God given talent and waste it in pursuit of money, self gratification, and a false sense of power.

When I read of Mr. Picken’s death on twitter this morning my first reaction was to go to his twitter page where I read many confirmations of his participation in the degrading of his own culture and even commented accordingly. That tweet can be found on the right side of  this page in my twitter feed. Then God spoke to me reminding me of why men, and women, like Lionel Pickens frustrate me so. Because at the end of the day there are millions of souls at stake and sadly the enemy is using people like Mr. Pickens far more successfully to entrap and destroy lives than God is seemingly using his people to save them.

Is this because Satan is wiser or more powerful than God? Of course not. Satan is always seeking and teaching the lost to take short cuts in life. It results in much of what we seek in the media that looks both wonderful and sometimes horrific. We saw Mr. Picken’s ‘wonderful’ wealth, and now his horrific death.

Satan’s method is often flamboyant. Fast cars, scantly clad attractive women, cash burning to light fat cigars. God however works much differently, in ways we often cannot perceive. Yet He doesn’t want us to be silent in the face of evil either. What we are observing in our culture is not just God working quietly, but his people often standing silent is hopes of not offending, or in hopes of being allowed to continue being “socially relevant” (something I detest the Christian concern for).

In this day and age there is simply too few Christians willing to put themselves in harms way to speak truth to sin and nearly as few it seems who are willing to spend their resources to help put forth the message of life as passionately as those who are willing to fund the message of self gratification, which really is the message of death.

Very shortly now Mr. Picken will “get his casket on.”  This world will of course morn his passing because he was a messenger of its views even as some within it cringe at his messaging.  I originally intended to post the lyrics to one of his songs to make an earlier point to his participation in the destruction of so many but it really isn’t necessary.

Today instead I choose to mourn a life not only wasted but used to convince thousands upon thousand to also waste theirs.

Talon’s Point of the Day – May 15, 2015 Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

Dear Christian,

We’ve all heard the phrase “Put your money where your mouth is.” Yet if we are as truly grieved by the amoral state of modern culture as we claim then why do we give our non essential expenditures to those who propagate depravity? Do we not understand we are putting our money where our hearts are and in the process revealing the true state of our hearts to the God who searches our hearts?  Isn’t it time we line our hearts up with our rhetoric and put our money where our mouths are?
