Talon’s Point of the Day – Nov. 20th, 2016 Don’t “Give Him Up”

jesus-crucified

To paraphrase the great John R.W.Stot, one of the principle authors of the Lausanne Covenant, from his classic book Cross of the Christ,

Judas gave Jesus up to the Priests (out of greed). The Priests gave Jesus up to Pilate (out of envy). Pilate gave Jesus up to the soldiers to be crucified (out of cowardice), but God, and Jesus himself, gave him up to the Cross out of pure love.

Share him generously, but never give him up.

Talon’s Point of the Day -Aug 28th, 2016 Scorched Earth

Just a reminder to all that think Jesus was all just about making sure you can have the warm fuzzies in life; the very Christ Jesus who willfully gave all of himself to set us free from sin and it’s eternal hellish consequence is the same Jesus who has a scorched earth policy.

The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

Don’t get caught in the firestorm.

Talon’s Point of the Day -March 10th, 2016 Water or Marshmallows?

God set up boundaries of conduct for our own benefit. We disregard these boundaries, for which his benefits are contingent, to our own peril. This is true as an individual, a group, even a nation.

As a nation, let alone the world as a whole, we have dispelled with God’s boundaries and there is collective peril just outside our doorstep, all the while our house is burning. The only question that remains is “Who will you and I throw our lot in with when the voices call for burning sacrifices in the fires of our own destruction?” Will we offer the ever unwanted living water, or reach for the marshmallows?

Talon’s Point of the Day – Feb 28th, 2016 The One Place You Can Hide Sin

There’s only one place I can hide my sin….under perfect blood. Perfect blood can only be found at the foot of a single cross. That cross can only be found with a humble honest heart. A humble honest heart can only occur when I recognize how disgusting my sin is and desire to have God not see it. When I recognize that God sees past everything but perfect blood I realize there’s only one place I can hide my sin…under perfect blood. (Repeat as necessary)

“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life” – Leviticus 17:11

“And when I see the blood, I will pass over you” – Exodus 12:13

“He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, b so that we may serve the living God” – Hebrews 9: 12-14

” If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” – 1st John 1:9

“He will again have compassion on us; He will subdue and tread underfoot our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” – Micah 7:19

Talon’s Point of the Day – Feb. 27th, 2016 Listen To Your Mother!…If She Is Godly

It is said that one day a young John Wesley asked his mother “can you give me a definition of sin?” His mother Susanna answered “whatever weakens your reasoning, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes away your relish for spiritual things.”

Listen to your mother!….if she is Godly.

Talon’s Point – Feb.19th, 2016 Death Clothes

As Christians we have died with Christ (Romans 6:8) and have been buried with him(Romans 6:4). Returning to the sin he has freed us from is like shedding our pure white garments (Ephesians 5:7), digging up a dead man, our old man (Romans 6:6), stripping him of his rot and stench soaked clothes, and putting them on ourselves.

Leave your death clothes where they belong, on that old man.

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. Romans 6:8

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4

..and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. Ephesians 5:7

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Roman 6:6

Talon’s Point of the Day – Feb13th, 2016 Endure The Flames

Heart of Fire

Just as with gold and silver, the heart is only purified by fire. If you find yourself standing in the middle of the flames, with everything around you that you hold dear burning away fear not. God has not left you. He did not let you fall into the furnace while he was looking away. As unpleasant as it is to be told this, God not only placed you in the furnace, he is stoking the flames. As little as it may comfort you I compel you with everything within me to stand and trust him. Just as he did with the three Hebrew children, just as he has done with me repeatedly, he’ll be faithful to you. He is not about to let the flames destroy you. Let him burn away the dross in your life, for what will remain is what he designed you to be. Do not seek an exit. Do not run. For in due season you will behold the beauty of what he desires to create within you.

Talon’s Point of the Day – Feb 4th, 2016 Are You ن ?

We are living in a time of heroes of the Cross but we’re so enslaved to our American comfort that we live our days unaware. Meanwhile, brothers and sisters we’ve never met are losing everything, driven by persecution to flee for their lives with nothing but the literal clothes on their backs to live in tents, or worse. Those who do not make it out, or stay in defiance of Islamists to be the light of Christ in a darkening world, are being martyred for the Savior they love more than life itself.

What are you and I doing, not only to shine God’s light in our own darkening world, but to bring some relief to our brothers and sisters of faith who have lost all for the Cross of Christ?

Talon’s Point of the Day – Jan 16th, 2016 There Is No Lottery For Wisdom

The lottery sells false hopes of getting rich easily from just a dollar, to the earthly and weak minded, where a selective elite (the operators) always benefit and an occasional few “winners” are paraded before the cameras to keep hyping their false hope. I guess it’s not surprising that Government runs it.

There is no lottery for wisdom. It must be sought out diligently, worked for arduously, and often cost you everything, even your very self, yet the reward is eternal and grander than you can imagine.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Jesus (Matthew 6:19-21)

“But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” – Paul, the Apostle (1st Corinthians 2:8)

“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” – Solomon (Proverbs 4:7)

There’s a place where every would-be treasure hunter can go daily and dig, with the guarantee of not only finding treasure every time, but also not having human thieves lying in wait to take it away. Why? Because thieves have no idea where this place is, and even if you told them they wouldn’t recognize it’s value.

Talon’s Point of the Day – Jan 15th, 2016 “Stop Being Unreasonable!”

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” – Apostle Paul, to the Christians of Rome (Romans 12:1)

For reasons that cannot be stated here I’m brought back to this verse I posted about in September 2014. While we all fail I cannot stress just how critical it is that we, myself included, do not excuse our sin, whether secret or public. We simply cannot continually hold that we love God while disregarding his precepts. Secret sin at least indicates he is dealing with our hearts through his loving conviction. Open sin tends to indicate we have stopped listening to that still small voice grafted into us at conversion. A voice that should in time consume us so that it’s no longer a graft but our very root of life. When we say “yes but I love God even though I’m doing this thing I know grieves his heart and I think it’s ok”, or “I know its wrong but I’m going to do it anyway and God understands and I love him” we are deluding ourselves, for our Savior made it quite clear:

While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him.  Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”

He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”  Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers.  For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Let us not grieve God’s spirit twice. First by our sin of conduct, then by our excuses.
