Talon’s Point of the Day, Nov 16th, 2018 “Where Are You Adrift?”

Recently a young man survived 49 days at sea, relying on his Bible to keep his hope.

So I ask, where are you adrift?

Talon’s Point of the Day – Aug 16th, 2018 “The Temptation To Lust Is The Mission To Pray”

Here’s one that is going to be challenging to the reader. It’s certainly challenging to the author. It’s not my usual 1-3 sentence concise point, though I’ve kept it as short a possible.

When you or I find ourselves drawn toward lusting after something, or even someone, it’s not just that we should be praying to resist this potential idol in our heart, but that act of prayer is what someone else is in desperate need of from us.

Perhaps we’re being drawn to be entertained by things that war against Christ. Perhaps pornography, or simply movies, or music that promote messages that we know disagree with our faith, yet we like the actor, or singer, etc. Not only should we be praying to have these things cleansed from our hearts, we should be praying for those who are facing the battle, or the “artists” themselves, that God would be their strength as they break free, or even those who think that what they are doing is fine, that God will reveal to their heart their need to be freed.

Perhaps its drunkenness we are drawn to. Even if we have broken free but occasionally long for giving up self control. Our prayers for others, whether it is someone we know or don’t know, will further distance us from the gravitational pull of what we know in our heart is a black hole.

Perhaps it is lust for an actual person, even a person we know. Not only do we need to be praying for ourselves, that our hearts would be purified before God, but also that individual, no matter what we think we know about them, is also in desperate need of God working in their life, just as we are. I’m utterly convinced that the greatest way to break sexual attraction to someone is to pray for them EVERY time you have the slightest thought towards them. Just as it is impossible to long hold unforgiveness toward someone whom you pray for whenever you feel anger toward them, it is equally impossible to hold someone up as a sexual idol for long, every time you take that person to God in prayer.

Talon’s Point of the Day – Aug 11th, 2018 “But Joy”

This evening I watched the interview of a broken man. A man who had build his life around a wife and family whom he loved more than anything, only to see it all come crashing down as his wife left him for fleeting pleasure. The carnage in his family, and his heart, was fresh, and profound.

While not going into my own life I will say his story strikes close to home. Trying to put it out of my mind I retired for the evening but sleep deserted me. I found myself grieving for this man I do not know. For the loss his children are, and will suffer, though in many ways they will not even recognize it growing up, yet the carnage will take it’s toll. I found myself pleading to God for him, and them, to find grace, and peace, and love.

Then, as is the case when I’m willing to listen to that still small voice, I knew I should mention it here in this humble sanctuary that is my blog. I don’t who. I don’t know when they will see it, but someone will come across this post that desperately needs to be reminded of the second part of Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.”

Your night may have lasted for years (I know such night), but Joy my friend is coming. Hold fast to righteousness despite the price. If you keep your focus on God, you’ll begin to see the early glimmer of light.

The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” – Proverbs 4:18

Talon’s Point of the Day: July 15th, 2018 “Jesus Aint My Homeboy”

In the rush to appeal to this world’s thinking and vernacular, the Church has reduced the importance of the sacrifice of Christ and of Christ himself through how we speak of him. So in defense of all that is holy let me make this abundantly clear…

Jesus is not my “homeboy”. He’s not my “boo”. He’s not my “bro”, “bud”, or “pal” (though he is of course my friend). On the contrary Jesus is my Savior. We are in no way equals. We never will be. Jesus earned the right to my worship and complete humility before him with every piece of flesh torn from his body by the Roman cat of nine tails, by the nails driven through him, by every drop of blood given for me.

By all means lets personalize his great love for us. The intimacy between us and our Lord is, or should be, deeper than anything that can be experienced between a man and woman. Yet, when we define him in such casual terms we denude him of the glory he has earned, and he deserves so much better.

Talon’s Point of the Day, June 24th, 2018 “Everyone’s Anchor”

There is a realm far more real and powerful than this physical existence. It holds certain rules that cannot be resisted for there is no means to resist this truth; that everyone, every man, every woman, every child, has an anchor they are bound to.

For the one lost in sin it is an anchor that is slowly pulling them under, and sadly most refuse to see it. In fact if they see it at all they think it is freedom from accountability. As such, when they eventually breath their last, they are pulled under by this anchor and enter the deep of eternity without God.

For the true believer in Christ there is also an anchor. Their chains to the sin anchor, broken by God’s grace have been replaced with a new chain and a new anchor. One that slows them and reminds them of their capacity and propensity to drift in their self will. One that keeps them from being swept away during the violent storms that come to us all. One that, if maintained in gratitude keeps them from being pulled away by every wind of doctrine. One, in a great paradox, reminds them that there is no freedom without Christ, without the chain, without the anchor.

May we all search our hearts this day. May we see the anchor we are chained to in it’s true light. For some of us our eternity is at stake.

Music M̶o̶n̶d̶a̶y̶ err Thursday “Free” – Steven Curtis Chapman

Got busy and didn’t post a song on Monday but woke up this morning and God placed this old Steven Curtis Chapman song on my heart so I decided not to wait until next Monday to post it.

If you’re feeling beaten down by life I pray this song will come to mean as much to you as it always has to me.

Talon’s Point of the Day – Easter Sunday 2018 “Don’t Avoid the Intersection”

The Cross of Christ is the intersection of necessary judgement and undeserved grace. Those who turn to God here find the path to pure love and eternal life.

Whatever you do don’t live life trying to avoid the intersection.

Talon’s Point of the Day – Jan. 2nd, 2018 “Walk Anew in 2018”

19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” 20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.

Please notice the last sentence Otherwise you also will be cut off. ”  This debate over whether or not we can “lose” salvation is simply unnecessary. The word is clear. Don’t wonder if you can “lose it”. Wonder what results in being “cut off if you don’t “continue in His goodness. (an act of choice) Keep in mind this was written specifically to believers about consequences on believers for rebellion.

As we enter this new year let us walk anew in truth, regardless of whether it is comforting or not. If we “continue in His goodness” we will find comfort in these verses. If we do not, we will find it most uncomfortable, which is exactly what we’ll need to be drawn back to Him in repentance.

Talon’s Point of the Day – Dec. 6th, 2017 Playing God

It is not he who proclaims God’s precepts who is playing God, but he who denies God’s precepts in favor of his own.

Keep this in mind the next time you hear someone accuse you, or another, of “playing God.”

One more thing….God isn’t playing
