Talon’s Point of the Day – May 19th, 2018 “Idols of Another Name”

I passed by a car show today and caught a glimpse of all the usual activities, people milling around, owners expounding about something about the vehicle or polishing some spot that’s not perfectly shiny and it struck me.

First let me say I’ve been to a few of these shows and have enjoyed looking at the restored beauties. The work put into their restoration alone can inspire metaphors to the love of God.

Secondly, I’m not about to suggest that owning and sharing a classic car with the public is in itself wrong. However I’m always left oddly sorrowful at some of the aspects of these shows. The pride in riches not the least. There is a distinct danger in my opinion that our material goods can become a source of pride and thereby become our own personal little idols.

I know I’ve touched on this subject before , and likely will again, but if we are not very careful our belongings, whether homes, land, cars, bank accounts, jewelry, clothing, even relationships, can easily become idols of another name.

If you’ve ever gone through a stage of life where it seems God has stripped you of everything be encouraged. Perhaps God wants you to see just how easy you and I can take idols into our live, even our hearts, and not even realize it.

Talon’s Point of the Day is meant to be concise yet thought provoking. If you are impacted feel free to share the point with others, with or without citation.

Mother’s Day Gold 2018

This last Sunday, Mother’s Day, we took some friends, including some moms, up to our placer drift mine in search of a little gold. The following video is just some clips pieced together but I thought I’d go ahead and post it here.

For those of you who have read my message to moms –>> Mother’s Day Gold, this little video might shed a little more light on the words chosen in that post. The mine you’ll enter used to be a river bed where the rocks were grinding together as they ran along the bedrock as the river raged. Anyway, I hope you enjoy a glimpse into the odd little world I call ‘having fun.’

Music M̶o̶n̶d̶a̶y̶ err Thursday “Free” – Steven Curtis Chapman

Got busy and didn’t post a song on Monday but woke up this morning and God placed this old Steven Curtis Chapman song on my heart so I decided not to wait until next Monday to post it.

If you’re feeling beaten down by life I pray this song will come to mean as much to you as it always has to me.
