Talon’s Point of the Day – Jan. 30, 2016 Get Sick Of Yourself

Many who attempt, suicide, and sometimes “succeed”, do so for things such as no longer being able to deal with physical pain, no doubt coupled with emotional pain. The rest of course do so because they no longer wish to face said emotional pain. In all cases it is of course tragic. Yet I cannot help but think on one level they are half way to a truth they are unwilling to continue through the process to completion.

When we get so sick of our lives as we have molded them through our own choices, to the point we give up on our lives, we are at a potentially eternal crossroad where one path is nothing short of glorious. Yes we can give up. We can use our last decision in life to act consistent with our past. Decisions that have us here at this crossroad in the first place, unwilling to turn to the God we’ve all heard about at some level. Or, even if we know little about this Creator, and even doubt he exists, or doubt the claim he loves us, we can choose to strike a new path. We can truly get so sick of ourselves that instead of ending our mortal existence, we cry out to God in surrender, leaving the remainder of our days in his hands, to mold us as he wills. To help us finally know that we were created for a wonderful purpose,

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:14

and to turn the ashes of our self destruction into beauty.

“…and provide for those who grieve in Zion —
to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”

Get sick of yourself. It can lead to beauty beyond imagination.
