China, Russia (I know, they claim to no longer be communist) and other communist nations torture and murder their own citizens for believing in God and you think America and Europe’s power hungry communists, ie socialists, ie democrats wouldn’t secretly love to do the same?
An example of the persecuted church in China
There is no such thing as “no strings attached.” There are ALWAYS strings whether you chose to see them or not and those string, no matter how small they appear, are strong enough to hang by.
The closer I walk to my Creator the more I find the bible phase “I’m a stranger in a strange land(1) has ever deeper meaning. Yet, as the line in the great Steven Curtis Chapman song “Not Home Yet” says “Let us not grow weary(2), or too content to stay.”
Exodus 2:22(1), Galatians 6:9(2)
While I disagree with the premise that material things are not blessings I whole heartedly endorse the point that being “blessed” is not defined by material status. I’ve had much and I’ve been in want, had much again and again find myself in want and I was, and am, blessed beyond measure, and yes, grateful.
*Writers note: After reading your comments, I have been moved to revise the following piece. In a post where the main point is to encourage others to be aware of how our choice of words can get in the way of conveying our true intent, I realize the irony that my choosing to refer to my lack of understanding of God’s purpose as “dumb luck” caused some folks to miss the meaning of the post itself. Silly me. While people may still disagree, I think this slightly revised version better captures my honest intent.
I was on the phone with a good friend the other day. After covering important topics, like disparaging each other’s mothers and retelling semi-factual tales from our college days, our conversation turned to the mundane.
“So, how’s work going?” he asked.
For those of you who don’t know, I make money by teaching leadership skills and…

I will be away for the next few days alone in God’s creation. I highly recommend finding ways to shut off the world around you for a few days at a time and spend time talking with God. Personally, I prefer to get alone in His creation as it not only removes the distractions from tempting me but the change of setting seems to help shift focus. Of course not everyone has this option available to them but in this age of constant electronic stimulation its all the more important to find some way to commune with your creator.
God bless you and I’ll see you in a few days
This morning the “wages of sin” that those of us who are followers of God often refer to have been weighing heavy on my heart. The giving in to temptation in seemingly victimless ways, beginning with things we allow ourselves to see and hear for “entertainment,” slowly create a drive for more that eventually cannot be satisfied with observing, but eventually lead to participation. Before we know it we have destroyed all that is good and stable in our lives and stripped those most innocent of the same. All for nothing of value.
I myself have been guilty of the “Slow Fade” and subsequent foolishness. The fact alone makes it that much more sorrowful when my words of warning go unheeded, knowing the destruction that not only awaits them but the profound grief and hardship that will be thrust on loved ones, myself included, but especially children.
I carry daily not only the scars of my own making but the daily pain of consequence for the choices of others who’s paths are leading them to dangerous places. Yet, even in this there is hope. If you, like me, have “walked through the valley of the shadow of death” because of your own choices please read my poem “Broke Shells.” If you are currently heading down this path of destruction be honest with yourself. You know you are risking everything, even eternity, on something the has ZERO potential for a positive return of your investment. Walk away from it while you have time.
Let this short video by Casting Crowns be your warning and your encouragement to turn from the thing you know God is speaking to your heart about
