YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. OPEN YOUR EYES AND DO SOMETHING. Many libertarians will say that prostitution is a victimless crime. BULLSHIT! Forced into the sex industry against their will and yet not a victim? Wanna buy a bridge?

While I strongly oppose prostitution on religious reasons I must say your premise is partly flawed. Not all prostitution is a result of forced participation. Those who are forced are not what libertarians are referring to as it automatically assumes someone forced is having their liberty violated. Also, the libertarian view assumes the choices of adults, not children, who must be protected from prostitution even if involved willfully.

On the other hand those (Adults) in the prostitution industry by choice are still harming themselves however they do so willingly just as any other unhealthy behavior, such as drugs, alcohol, pornography, or for that matter the consumption of Twinkies (though Govt support of out of control unions has put an end to that activity).

Such control of personal choices (liberty) is not the purview of a govt charged with simply protecting liberty.

The act of prostitution, as with the other self harming acts I noted above, though abhorrent (maybe not the Twinkies), is between themselves and God, just as all sin is. To grant Govt the power to prevent WILLFUL prostitution is the same power that Govt eventually uses to control moral behavior such as religious expression, as well as moral resistance to the immoral use of Govt force.

It is the law of unintended consequence. The power we grant Govt today is the power Govt will use against us tomorrow…if not sooner. We would be wise to protect those who do not wish to be victims of prostitution but resist the urge to protect those who desire no such protection.

Thanks for commenting. The opportunity to respond will be tweaked and posted as a separate blog post
