To me and most consevatives, “fair share” means that everyone pays the same tax rate regardless of income. Some conservatives prefer to realize this principle through a flat income tax where every income level pays the same percentage. But I prefer to abolish the income tax and replace it with a national consumption tax under which everyone pays the exact same tax when purchasing the exact same products, regardless of income level. The beauty of that system is that the more you buy, the more taxes you pay. And everytime you pay taxes, you get something in return — the goods that you purchased. No tax system could be simpler and more fair. But socialists hate it! To socialists like Obama, “fair share” means that the more you earn, the bigger the percentage of your earnings that they are entitled to confiscate. They use the Orwellian term “progressive tax system” to disguise what it actually is — a penalty for success.

Not necessarily against a consumption tax but consumption taxes have black market issues and can lead to more intrusive gubmint actions. I thoroughly agree with you and our founders that taxes need to be same for everyone. The poor would actually benefit in the long run because the hidden taxes that they currently pay could be removed. Furthermore, they would see what they are actually paying and would become more conservative.

        Very good points!

Toss in your "two cents" if you care to. Fair warning, you might get change ;-)
